Companies Act 2014
The Companies Act 2014 governs the formation and operation of companies in Ireland. It occurred on 1 June 2015, replacing the previous Companies Acts 1963-2013. The Act is divided into 25 parts and contains over 1,400 sections, making it the most significant legislation in Irish history. It provides a modern framework for companies in Ireland, simplifying and consolidating existing company law while introducing substantial reforms in company governance, financial reporting, and insolvency. The Act also introduces new company types, such as the "designated activity company" (DAC), a hybrid between private and public companies. Overall, the Companies Act 2014 aims to make it easier and more cost-effective for businesses to operate in Ireland while ensuring greater transparency and accountability in corporate governance.
